  • 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder

  • 1 (24-ounce) jar marinara sauce

  • 1/2 cup chicken broth

  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

  • 8 ounces penne or rotini pasta

  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh basil (optional)

Directions

  • Place the chicken breasts in the crockpot and season with salt, pepper, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  • Pour the marinara sauce and chicken broth over the chicken. Add red pepper flakes if using.
  • Cover and cook on low for 5-6 hours or on high for 3-4 hours, until the chicken is tender and easily shreds.
  • Shred the chicken directly in the crockpot using two forks. Stir to combine with the sauce.
  • Add the uncooked pasta and mix well. Cover and cook on high for 20-25 minutes, or until the pasta is tender. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
  • Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella and Parmesan cheese over the pasta. Cover and let sit for 5 minutes until melted.
  • Garnish with fresh basil if desired and serve warm.
