Ingredients
4 cups cooked chicken, shredded
8 slices ham (choose a low-sodium variety if preferred)
2 cups shredded Swiss cheese (or a mix of Swiss and Gruyère for extra flavor)
1 cup heavy cream
2 large eggs
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard (feel free to adjust to taste)
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
Salt and pepper to taste
Fresh thyme for garnish (or substitute with parsley for a different herb profile)
Directions
- Preheat Oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish to prevent sticking.
- Layer the Ingredients: Spread the shredded chicken evenly at the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Follow by arranging the ham slices over the chicken. Sprinkle half of the Swiss cheese (or cheese mix) over the ham.
- Prepare the Cream Mixture: In a separate bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, eggs, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Adjust seasoning as per your taste preference.
- Assemble the Casserole: Pour the cream mixture evenly over the chicken, ham, and cheese layers in the baking dish. Top with the remaining cheese, ensuring it covers the dish well.
- Bake: Place the casserole in the preheated oven and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the cheese becomes bubbly and golden. Check for bubbling edges as a sign of readiness.
- Rest and Garnish: Once baked, allow the casserole to cool for a few minutes. Garnish with fresh thyme or parsley before serving for added flavor and presentation.
